on the verge

the view from terrapin beach, a mile's walk from my house

Summer around these parts includes lots of trips to the ocean which is happily less than two hours away. Even though we are lucky to have several beautiful local beaches here on the island, there's just something so compelling about the vast expanse of sand and sea and the pounding waves only to be found at the shore. Plus there's the boardwalk fries, ice cream, fudge and salt water taffy. I am missing it already! Also love all the beach knitting that was achieved while we were there last week and now I am finding myself on the verge of finishing a couple of projects:

just the bind off & blocking left on the Shetland Trader MKAL shawl

hitofude cardigan

Can't wait to get started on a couple of new projects as soon as these are done. I've got the yarn already lined up for a Morning Mist tee. Simple stockinette with a cute lace detail on the back. Perfect beach knitting project.

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend for those of you who celebrate. I just ordered my first grill and can't wait to try all of the yummy summer recipes that I've been collecting over the years. Grilled pineapples...chicken kebabs...flank steaks....! What is your favorite thing to cook on the grill? Would love any recipe suggestions/links you might have.

  1. welcome to the world of grilling!!! (it's actually my husband's world, but I rank up the benefits---cooler kitchen among them!!!) No doubt, grilled flank steak and pork tenderloin are my favs. The flank steak I usually just 'marinate' in italian dressing; the pork tenderloin in a marinade of veg oil, bourbon, dijon mustard, brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger, bit of worchestershire sauce. yum.

  2. I'm so jealous of all your beach knitting! I need to move someplace closer to the ocean :) One of my favorite things to grill is zucchini and summer squash-cut in half lengthwise, brush with oil, and sprinkle with parmesan delicious!

  3. How awesome the beach is just a hop and a skip away from your home. I love that deep green of your shawl. I've been hankering for something hunter green of late.
I so want to learn how to grill! I always see cute, small grills at ACE.

  4. Search Grilled Potato Salad, maybe Southern Living link. Yummy! It has a mayo/worch/mustard sauce and a dry rub. I make it in the oven too.

  5. Your knitting looks so beautiful. I tell you I think that Hitofude is such a remarkable pattern. I saw a woman wearing it at the grocery store wearing one. It really is a standout piece.

Oh you lucky lady you! Beach knitting and a grill! Get out of my summer head! I have to say, my 2 summer grilling fun items besides summer squash 'cause really, that never gets old for me, is chicken satay and also what I have been annoying my son by calling Figs and Pigs, which is basically just bacon wrapped figs, ha! Enjoy your summer grilling!
