You know the craft book and magazine stash has reached the unmanageable stage when this occurs:
Doubles!
And yikes...double Doubles! So I guess now is as good a time as any to have a giveaway (and get rid of the evidence before my family starts to wonder if there is a little hoarding problem brewing in their midst). I am happy to have come across this book in the stash again, though. It is full of fun vintage-inspired knitting and crochet patterns. Many of the projects are very wearable if you look past the somewhat campy styling. One of my favorites is this elegant crocheted cardigan.
And how cute would this hat and sweater set look knitted up in a pretty Jackie O. pink? Love the fabric buttons!
Here are the giveaway details: 1) this will be open to all 2) the winner will receive both the magazine and the book 3) to enter, leave a comment (including contact information) under this post between now and February 28th. I would love to know what some of your favorite fashion time periods are. I happen to love the sixties because of its wide range of fashions, from Jackie Kennedy's classic American glam to the waif look made famous by Twiggy to the hippie bohemian styles towards the end of the decade. Not to mention my all-time favorite fashion movie: Breakfast at Tiffany's starring the iconic Audrey Hepburn. But if I could go back in time, nothing would make me happier than to end up in Jane Austen's Regency England wearing an ethereal empire-waisted gown (and in the arms of Mr. Darcy!) 4) the winner will be announced on leap day February 29th. Good luck!
I love the 30s because everone looked so smart and beautiful! I agree about Audrey Hepburn, iconic!
ReplyDeletethe doubles thing happens to me all.the.time in pretty much everything I do. You'd think I could get a grip by this point! Don't think I have a particular time period favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love the flapper '20s look. For men's fashion, I prefer the 1940s. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm a total sucker for the simple elegance of the 40s. And the shoes! Love the shoes. But I hear you on the Jane Austen thing, especially if Mr. Darcy comes with the dress. :)
ReplyDeleteKatherine Hepburn is amazing! I love the fifties, but Regency and Victorian style can be just breathtaking as well.
ReplyDeleteI totally love the 60s, but thanks to Downton Abbey, I now wish I lived in the Edwardian era. The lace! The tea-length skirts! The wide-brimmed hats!
ReplyDeleteLike the person above me, I'm really digging late-Edwardian style due to Downton, although I doubt that I could ever pull it off. Thanks for the great contest, you can probably contact me through my blog if I (fingers crossed) win!
ReplyDeleteHave been primarily a crocheter, but recently got back into knitting, and love it! Lots of older patterns available online, classy, I think! This book looks similar.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dress is the 50s and very early 60s - the dresses and skirts, so pretty! It's nice to see that I'm the only one who gets "double vision" but I send the evidence of mine off to swap partners.
ReplyDeleteYou can reach me through my blog or Ravelry (PprmntMochaMama) - thanks so much!
Even before Downton Abby, I was in love with the Edwardian era style. I have an ample bust but a small waist and hips so I fit that Victorian ideal figure. My husband prefers me in more Marilyn Monroe type of dresses though.

oooh, I don't think I can pick a time period that's a favorite as far as knitting. If I had my druthers, I would live in Jane Austen's world but only if I could be an independent woman. I love the lace and detail work. In the same breath, I love my caplets and cowls that always make me think of Doris Day and any 1950's movie.
ReplyDeleteI love the 60s and 70s hippie/gypsy style myself, everything is functional and colorful and unique, its perfect! I don't like to accessorize or dress with too much excess or with things that don't have a purpose but I like to be colorful and unique, perfect combo!
ReplyDeleteI know I have won from you before... but I can't help entering. I love the look of that book!
ReplyDeleteI love the 50's but can pretty much pick out things I love (and hate) in any era... Except maybe the 80's, that was pretty much all bad - and I have the photos of myself to prove it!

Your doubles crack me up. I'm digging the 50's styles right now, prim sweaters and cardigans. I'm not so happy about the current resurgence of 80's styles--I lived through that once, and don't really care to do it again! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of Victorian fashions...but for the wearable I tend to like retro 50s chic :)

Thanks for this great giveaway. I love the fashions and style of the 1920s ... and knitted designs were popular then, too.

Oh, those outfits are too much. I love just about any retro period; it's hard for me to pick just one! Maybe the 50s for me, because I love those big, wide skirts that hide a lot, lol.
ReplyDeleteI adore the styles from the 50's!

What fun! I am a child of the 70's and I still embrace it. Casual, funky and relaxed. This brings back some fond memories. Lynn

Thanks for hosting the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite style periods are the 50's and 70's. Some aspects of the 80's will be a close runner up.
I'm so ferklempt today ... my contact info on Rav is Dnali
DeleteI have that book and heard the authors speak at Common Cod two years ago. They were a hoot and the book is filled with some beautiful patterns. But how did you end up with two????
ReplyDeleteI love anything retro and also 70's since I'm a 70's girl :)
