knit.where?

Why do I find myself always reaching for these...

...when I have several piles of these?

Fitting knitting into my daily life has never been a problem. I love the process of creating handknitted garments and accessories. But ironically, wearing or using the finished products of that process has been an on-going struggle. I have a tendency to save my handknits for "special occasions" or for when I am attending social functions that involve other knitters. Of course, there are a couple of exceptions, like this cowl which I often wear in order to add subtle color to a neutral outfit. I also love throwing my Vitamin D cardigan on over a simple tank top. But the rest of the pile hardly ever sees the light of day. So in order to address this dilemna and give my handknits a place in my daily life, I am going to assign Mondays as my knit.where day. It is also my errand running day, so wearing some handknits might make doing the grocery shopping, etc more fun. And as an added incentive, I will also try to post a picture of the outfit every week on Mondays. Some words of warning: fashion blogger I'm not, so some outfits might require a visit from the Fashion Police. Also, unless I miraculously knit a whole bunch of lightweight garments between now and July, knit.where Mondays might be in temporary hiatus when the humid Maryland summer weather hits. But until then, I am going to try to rock those knits :)

  1. Good for you! I have a hard time wearing knits in the spring and summer but I hope to get better about it. Blessings! <3

  2. It is so hard to wear them sometimes. I know the hours and hours that I have invested in a handknit piece and often recoil in fear of the thought of actually wearing/living with these items. Knowing the abuse that I sometimes inflict upon my favorite comfy pieces, it is a frightening prospect.

  3. You are not alone! I seems to always reach for my fleece, because my knit sweaters are "too good." I've decided to knit myself more items though, and wear them more too!

  4. I think that's why I almost never knit for myself the financial x time investments are just too great for the hammering that my clothes get in the garden, in the kitchen, and while dealing with the many effluvia of small children! But my children use hand knits daily, and I'm snuggled up under two blankets right now (in April, sheeesh! It snowed again today!) so I guess my efforts aren't going waste :-)

  6. What a wonderful challenge! I, too, don't often wear my handmade goodies. I will not call the fashion police on you, because then you will surely call me in. I love the first outfit!

  7. Lovely! I have been making an extra effort spice up my outfits (read: jeans, neutral tank top, neutral cardigan) with my knit shawls and scarfs. It feels like a "safe" way to add colour. I don't know what has taken me so long to start wearing them!
