Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I am in the process of going through some of my old knits and deciding if they should be given away, frogged or (hopefully) entered into the wardrobe rotation. First up is Ingenue.

I remember my excitement upon first seeing this gorgeous retro sweater. So chic, so Audrey Hepburn, so "it had to be mine"! I even ordered the exact same yarn and color that was used in the original, which I hardly ever do. As with most impulsive knits, I did not pause to reflect on whether the resulting style would be flattering to my body type. Disappointingly, it is not. I am petite and this sweater seems to overwhelm my body, especially the sleeves and collar. The color is also not that flattering on me. Instead of the retro chic that I was going for, it makes me feel like a little kid playing dress up every time I try it on. This one will probably be given away since it is still a nice sweater, just not on me.

Are there any finished objects waiting in limbo in your closet?

  1. Just one...Molly Ringwald...I cannot get the back to NOT gap. It needs to be frogged. =(

  2. Mostly they've already been given away. I agree this would make a nice gift for someone else with a different frame. (And it is great work, by the way!)

Yes, there are. I usually get rid of things, although it takes me a while, especially if it's something I worked on for a long time. I agree, that is a nice sweater, but if you think someone else would be happier with it, at least it gives you more room in your closet :-)

  4. I think it would work if it were shorter. But you are the one who lives with it, so be happy and purge if need be. I have shawls that just didn't measure up, so I know what you mean.

  5. I love the details on the bottom. It really is Audrey-esque. With my own closet I say, if I don't love it - it needs to go. It's a gorgeous sweater, but may be a great gift for someone else?

It's a gorgeous sweater. Very Audrey-esque, but I know what you mean about fit.

Drapey, loopy cowls work best for me, so my most recent F.O. the Dolores Park cowl is off to a new home.
